Have you ever had a stressful day, unable to relax or sleep? Have you tried to meditate, but found your mind wondering? Here is where guided meditation may help you. Guided meditation sounds simple, right? Well, if you are one of those people that have tried it without luck or have not tried it, I'm here to guide you.

Guided meditation can be somewhat difficult if you try too hard. Trying is the best way not to meditate. I say this because you will be thinking of how to do it. 

Do you know what the term, "clear your mind means"? I have taught thousands of people how to meditate and to "clear their mind".   Truthfully, it's not about learning a method. It is mainly about feeling. I call it, "the process of mindlessness".  Meditation is mindless. By that, I mean it as not thinking, not worrying, not expecting.

Forget about time.There are no rules with meditation. So stop overthinking there are! Meditation is about learning to clear your mind.

Most guided meditations will feature relaxing background music. The added music is used to enhance the listener’s experience of calm and tranquility.  It has a direct effect of making your senses more aware.

Meditation History

Asia first made its mark with meditation around 500 B.C. Teachings were spread far and wide across the Asian continent. Separate countries and cultures adopted different forms of the word, meditation.  They each found their own unique way of practicing it. Buddhist- and Hindu-based Easter-style meditation practices are still the most popular today. Also, Indian scriptures as early as 3,000 years ago, highlight meditation techniques. As time passed, other religions and sects developed their versions of meditation. So as you can see, meditation has been around for a very long time. 

Researched Facts:

According to a 2013 study by the journal, Health Psychology, the practice of meditation was shown to have an impact on the reduction of cortisol. The study followed its subjects for 3-months during a meditation retreat, where they were trained in mindfulness, controlled breathing, and other meditative practices. Their cortisol levels were measured before and after the 3-month retreat. Researchers found that the cortisol levels tended to trend downward for the participants.

Science is also finding that regular meditation practice can change the neuroplasticity of your brain, as well as regenerate cells in both your brain and body.


Reasons for Meditation:

 The benefits from meditation continue after the session ends. Meditation can help carry you more calmly through your day and may help you manage symptoms of certain medical conditions.

Physical:

  •  Help lower pain, including chronic pain 
  •  Strengthen your immune system 
  • Lower inflammation in the body 
  • Help reduce the severity of headaches, by reducing stress and creating a sense of calm
  • Help people recover from chronic diseases, such as cancer and heart disease, giving them a sense of peace of mind and comfort 
  • Help lower the risk of obesity and overeating, by assisting your ability to cope with stress in healthier ways

Mental:

Meditation is also great for your mental health. With regular practice, it can help:

  • Reduce depression and anxiety naturally 
  • Helps you to remain in the present moment, rather than in the past or future
  • Improves memory, focus and mental performance
  • Meditation lowers the stress hormone cortisol
  • Help you fall asleep quickly, as well as improve quality of sleep

Spiritual:

Meditation is also great for your soul. Calming the mind can be a spiritual or religious experience for many people. High vibrations are positive! Meditation can help to raise your vibration and make you a more loving, heart-centered, human being.
